From Close-Up to Centre Stage: My Journey into Stage Magic

I’ve been performing magic for around 20 years, and nearly 15 years ago, I turned full-time professional. Since then, I’ve made my living performing my unique style of close-up magic at weddings, corporate events, and private parties across the UK.
While I love the intimacy of close-up magic, more recently, I’ve been receiving requests for stage performances in front of larger audiences (100+ guests). That’s led me on an exciting journey—writing, developing, and perfecting my full stage show! 'Perception' translates my style from Close Up Magic to Stage Magic.
Developing My Stage Magic Performance
To make this transition, I’ve been attending monthly stagecraft workshops and working closely with an incredible team, including directors and world-champion magicians. It’s been a challenging but rewarding process, and I’ve loved learning how to adapt my magic for the big stage.
A Recent Stage Magic Performance
Just recently, I was hired to perform at East Midlands Conference Centre for an eye care company, entertaining an audience of 120+ guests. This was an after-dinner cabaret-style performance, and I was lucky to have my good friend Chris Wilder handling tech, alongside the fantastic teams from Lucy Clare Events and East Midlands Conference Centre.
The show went brilliantly, and I received some amazing feedback! One of the highlights was connecting with the audience—not just during the pre-show drinks reception, where I performed close-up magic as an icebreaker, but also after the show when guests came up to chat.
From Close Up Magic to Stage Magic! Looking Ahead...
Thinking back to when I first started performing close-up magic all those years ago, I never imagined I’d enjoy performing on the big stage so much. But now? I can’t wait for what’s next!
